Hi, my name is Chris Corkin and I make things with pixels. I am freelance creative graphic designer from South Shields, North East England. I am specialising in graphic and web design, branding and identity design, and print.

I began The Design Guru in 2005 as a side project, whilst working in the design industry (i've been around almost 17 years with my box of trix...crikey!!!). Back then there was no such thing as web standards and websites were often cumbersome to deal with. Fortunately the web has evolved since the days of tables within tables and code that would span hundreds of lines and be difficult to maintain. Today that same page can be rendered with less than a hundred lines of code that is simple to maintain. What a relief!

I find the work I do for my clients rewarding and my goal is that they find working with me rewarding as well. My digital work I focus on standards based website design because I believe it has enormous benefits to my clients. Simple visual consistency, better search engine results, decreased website maintenance costs and accessibility to all devices are all possible with a standards based website. The Whole Shebang: If you’re looking for someone to build your entire site from the ground up, this is for you. I provide a custom design and develop the site using CSS, XHTML, Javascript, and full web standards. Once the design stage is complete, I build the site into a full-featured content package - then finalise with domain name registration, email setup and hosting of the final live site!

Print Design: Looking for a fresh new print piece for your business? I'm here for you. I work directly with you for all your print needs to create custom pieces that will dazzle your audience. I manage the project from initial concepts through to liaising with selected printer and final print run.
